Targeted Biological Insect Control
Bio insecticides are derived from naturally occurring microorganisms and natural compounds that specifically target insect pests while leaving non-target organisms unharmed. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) produces insecticidal crystal proteins that selectively kill lepidopteran larvae when ingested, with zero effect on beneficial insects, birds, or mammals.
Nuclear Polyhedrosis Viruses (NPV) are highly host-specific biological control agents that infect and kill caterpillar pests within days of ingestion. Entomopathogenic fungi such as Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae infect insects through contact, making them highly effective for soil pests and sucking insects where stomach-acting agents are less effective.
