What to use, stage by stage
Stage 1: Land preparation
Products to use
- Do 2–3 good tillage operations and make the soil friable.
- Incorporate well-decomposed FYM/compost OR
- Nacro win - is a granulated soil conditioner used to enrich soil structure and supply secondary nutrients
- Dosage: 50 kg/acre.
- OR Organic carbon: 5-10 kg/ acre OR Nacro2: 1-2 kg per acre
- Maintain good drainage because waterlogging can affect root growth.
- OR Trichoderma (1 kg per acre ): used for reduce root diseases and wilt.
Stage 2: Seed treatment
Products to use
- Treat seed with Seed Cure based on crop
- For a pulse crop such as cowpea
- use an appropriate Rhizobium inoculant where recommended locally; biological nitrogen fixation is an important feature of cowpea.
Stage 3: Germination – 15 Day After Sowing
Products to use
- Maintain uniform moisture.
- Avoid excess irrigation.
- After establishment
- use the planned Shakthi spray.
- Shakthi :1 litre / 100 litre of water
- Available Shakthi package - 5 litre for spraying
- -25 litre for drip irrigation
Stage 4: Vegetative stage – 20–30 Day After Sowing
Products to use
- Keep the field weed-free during early crop growth.
- Monitor leaves for sucking pests and other problems.
- Apply for spraying
- Shakthi :1 litre / 100 litre of water OR Mr. Crop : 1 litre / 100 litre of water OR Nacro Gold : 1 litre / 100 litre of water OR Groster : 1 litre / 100 litre of water (Nutrient suppliment)
- 19:19:19: 1-2 kg/ acre OR 20:20:20 : 1-2kg/acre
Stage 5: Flowering – 30–45 Day After Sowing
Products to use
- This is an important stage for maintaining plant vigour.
- Avoid moisture stress.
- Use for spraying:
- Groster : 1 litre / 100 litre of water (Nutrient suppliment)
- Mr. Nacro : 1 gm /100 litre of water
- N:P: K (12:61:00): 1-2 kg per acre
- Monitor for flower damage and sucking pests.
Stage 6: Pod formation – 40–60 Day After Sowing
Products to use
- Maintain regular irrigation without waterlogging.
- Continue pest and disease monitoring.
- Use Mr. Crop for nutrition products
- Groster ( 1 litre/100 litre of water) + Mr.Nacro (1gm/ 100 litre of water)
- N:P: K (00:52:34): 1-2 kg per acre
- N:P: K (00:00:50): 1-2 kg per acre
Stage 7: Harvesting
Products to use
- For vegetable cowpea
- pick tender green pods regularly rather than waiting for over-maturity.
- Regular picking helps maintain marketable pod quality.
- For dry grain cowpea
- allow pods to mature and dry before harvesting.
Stage 8: Plant Protection
Products to use
- Insecticide : BVM 1 kg per acre
- Fungicide: Suraksha
- 250+50 gm for 100 litre of water
- Neem oil: 1 litre per 100 litre of water.
